About the role

Are you a passionate and experienced clinician who's committed to improving the mental health, social, and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families?

YAMHS is looking for a Senior Clinician who's ready to make a meaningful impact in community and work as part of a strong, supportive, and culturally grounded team. In this role, you'll work closely with a dedicated team of YAMHS/CAMHS multidisciplinary mental health professionals, as well as local Aboriginal Medical Services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. Together, you'll deliver holistic, culturally safe, and wraparound care for children, young people, and their families.

You will provide high-quality, culturally responsive mental health assessments, care planning, implementation, and evaluation services, while building strong and respectful partnerships with families, communities, and service providers. Your work will contribute to a collaborative and empowering model of care that centres Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of being, knowing, and doing.

Why join us?

You won't be on your own — you'll be part of a large Aboriginal mental health workforce that connects daily through clinical and wellbeing huddles, cultural activities, and community events. You'll also take part in regular networking with YAMHS and other Aboriginal organisations, supported by the YAMHS/CAMHS Clinical Governance Framework and Model of Care.

You'll have access to ongoing child and adolescent training and development opportunities, along with cultural clinical supervision through the Gayaa Dhuwi (Proud Spirit) framework. And best of all, you'll receive four paid hours each month to reconnect to culture and nurture your spiritual wellbeing — because we know caring for community starts with caring for yourself. This position is part of our ongoing commitment within HNE Mental Health Services to create sustainable employment and career pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the public health sector. If you're passionate about community, culture, and creating lasting change in the lives of young people and families, we'd love to hear from you.

You're passionate about improving mental health and strengthening the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and their families. You value community, culture, and compassion — and you bring these values into everything you do.

You enjoy working within community settings, providing culturally grounded support, advocacy, and consultation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing Hunter New England Mental Health services. You're committed to creating a culturally safe and supportive team environment where self-care, respect, and understanding are at the heart of your practice. You'll share your cultural knowledge and provide guidance to non-Aboriginal colleagues and stakeholders, helping others understand local cultural protocols and the importance of holistic, culturally responsive approaches to mental health and social and emotional wellbeing. Above all, you bring strength, empathy, and dedication to enhancing engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers.
