Where you'll be working:

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mental Health Clinician to join our supportive and dynamic team within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Greater Newcastle.

This position is primarily based with the Newcastle CAMHS team, working across our Raymond Terrace and Newcastle offices, with occasional travel to other areas within the Greater Newcastle region during work hours.

CAMHS is a specialist service dedicated to the assessment and treatment of young people aged 0–17 years and their families or carers residing in the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNE LHD). The service provides care to young people experiencing complex and severe mental health difficulties that significantly affect their functioning and development across multiple areas of life.

What you'll be doing:

As a Mental Health Clinician within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), you will deliver high-quality assessment, treatment, and case coordination services to children, young people, and their families or caregivers.

You will contribute your discipline-specific expertise to multidisciplinary team discussions and work collaboratively with a supportive team that includes professionals from Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, and Dietetics.

Within Hunter New England CAMHS, we provide specialist child, adolescent, and family-based assessments. Our model of care emphasises individual, dyadic, and family therapy interventions, supported by specialised supervision and consultation within the team.

The strong collaboration across our CAMHS network and with other service partners fosters a highly effective environment for delivering specialised interventions to address complex mental health presentations.

As part of our supportive team, you will receive direct line management and guidance from the CAMHS Greater Newcastle Team Leader and senior clinicians, including experienced psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and child and adolescent psychiatrists. You will also have access to regular clinical supervision, ongoing training opportunities, and continuing professional development programs, all designed to support your growth and success in the role.

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team model to provide specialist, person-centred clinical interventions to children, young people, and their families or carers, ensuring the delivery of innovative and developmentally appropriate therapeutic care.
  • Participate in the delivery and promotion of trauma-informed care, applying its principles when working with children and young people experiencing mental health concerns and their families or carers.
  • Exercise independent professional judgement in clinical decision-making and service delivery.
  • Ensure all care provided aligns with professional, organisational, legal, and ethical standards, reflects evidence-based best practice, and promotes a collaborative, client-centred, family-inclusive, and culturally sensitive approach.
  • Identify and act on opportunities for improvement in clinical practice and contributing to initiatives that enhance service delivery and consumer outcomes.
  • Work semi-autonomously on tasks related to assessment, formulation, and clinical documentation, while maintaining accountability to the multidisciplinary team and service standards.

Requirements:

  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
  • Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Clin Psychology/clin psych in training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program), Nutrition and Dietetics which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the service.
