About The Team
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is a large division within the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR). The NMI supports DISR in meeting its objectives by being the national authority on measurement.
We play a fundamental role underpinning the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia's measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services.
NMI's Legal Metrology Branch (LMB) plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services.
The Programs and Governance Section within the LMB has oversight and is accountable for the delivery of a diverse range of business operational requirements, while providing corporate support to the General Manager, Legal Metrology. It is comprised of three functionally aligned units, including Program Coordination and Monitoring, Program Coordination and Engagement, and Governance.
The opportunity
Working under the direction of the Assistant Managers, Program Coordination and Monitoring, and Program Coordination and Engagement, the Program Coordinators work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to research and analyse compliance trends in the context of the associated Acts and Regulations.
The Program Coordinators are responsible for the development of program proposals (including assessment of risk and developing intervention and mitigation strategies) for the endorsement of the Legal Metrology Branch Management Committee. Once endorsed, the Program Coordinators will develop project plans aimed at improving marketplace regulatory compliance using various contemporary compliance intervention strategies, including LMB inspection and audit activities.
The LMB also engages in Memoranda of Understandings (MoU's) with other Commonwealth agencies to provide program-based inspections and audit services. The Program Coordinators will help manage and support the delivery of our services under the MoU's. This includes periodic reviews of terms and conditions in MoU's and other interdepartmental agreements, developing an understanding of the contents of the MoU's and supporting the delivery of associated administrative tasks such as review, amendment and production of internal procedures, reporting, and invoicing.
In addition to program development responsibilities, the Program Coordinators are accountable for the ongoing management, analysis and reporting on multiple LMB National Compliance Programs which are run concurrently throughout the program year cycle. They seek ongoing intelligence and feedback from stakeholders relating to program efficacy, whilst monitoring expected program outcomes against established targets.
