About The Team
The areas of law handled within the Prosecutions and other Advocacy Team include:
- Prosecutions and other general advocacy (70% of the workload)
- Providing advice on the sufficiency of evidence and prospects of success, and conducting statutory prosecutions of simple and indictable offences on behalf of
Agencies Including
- the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation
- Queensland Health
- the Department of Education
- the Department of Housing and Public Works
- the Department of Fair Trading
- the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation; and
- the Australian Healthy Practitioner Regulation Agency
Providing procedural and evidential advice, and appearing as advocate in
- coronial inquests
- proceedings under the Mental Health Act 2016 including appeals in the Mental Health Court and reviews in the Mental Health Review Tribunal
- blue card appeals
- QCAT and QCATA hearings
- professional regulation matters
- subpoena and disclosure disputes
- pardons
- general appeal matters
- other injunctive matters
Written advocacy & general advices (30% of the workload) Providing general advice on:
- procedural matters relating to prosecution and general advocacy matters conducted by the team
- regulatory investigations and law enforcement
- general statutory interpretation.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to Crown Law's leadership community and improve systems and work practices to achieve business objectives.
- Provide expert and authoritative legal advice and representation to government clients.
- Actively participate in Crown Law's business planning process, including providing sponsorship to projects and participation in workgroups.
- Provide leadership and management support to team leaders in the on-going day to day operations of the team including, recruitment and selection, staff management, budget management and client billing processes and practices.
- Build the business of Crown Law by proactively undertaking reinvestment activities.
- Ensure Crown Law's commitment to a performance culture is maintained by dealing with performance issues in a proactive and timely manner, providing development opportunities to staff within a team, being involved in induction activities, mentoring staff throughout the organisation and ensuring the performance management framework is implemented within the team.
- Provide a supportive environment where team members strive to achieve best practice, and where information is communicated and shared freely.
- Ensure that the productivity and revenue targets of the team are met.
- Act as an expert source of advice to lawyers in the team members on complex and sensitive legal matters.
- Deputise for the Assistant Crown Solicitor during their absence.
- Assist the Assistant Crown Solicitor in ensuring appropriate allocation of work practices within the team are in place and that the correct level of resources are utilised to meet customer requirements.
- Assist the Assistant Crown Solicitor in taking unpopular stands if necessary and support and implement the decisions of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self -development, including achievement of CPD points.
