Principal Lawyer
(PO5)
within their Property Law and Leasing Team. Reporting to the Managing Lawyer, you will provides client focused legal services and authoritative high-quality advice.
Please note the salary banding for this position - $13,678 - $141,002 per annum + leave loading & 12.75% super.
The Role
The PO5 Principal Lawyer will provide high level of technical advice on Leasing, and other property related transactions (including disputes that arise in relation to those transactions) on behalf of various Queensland Government departments. Your services will also include the provision of legal advice to senior staff across a broad range of areas of law, including commercial and property law.
Key Responsibilities
As the PO5 Principal Lawyer, you will required (however not limited) to:
- Oversee the work of other lawyers to ensure the delivery of an efficient, high quality and cost effective legal service.
- Provide the Department and external government clients with efficient, cost effective and accurate property law or leasing services in accordance with relevant legislation, professional and public sector standards and Office policy and procedure.
- Be a first point of contact for clients and external lawyers in relation to the legal matters for which you have primary responsibility.
- Maintain records in accordance with professional and public sector standards and Office policy and procedures.
- Demonstrate a contemporary and high-level understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of the law and be able to provide high level legal advice relating to at least some of the following areas: 
- Commercial law 
- Property and leasing law 
- Have a high level of knowledge and understanding of the following legislation: 
- Property Law Act 1974. 
- Land Act 1994.
- Land Title Act 1994.
- Retail Shop Leases Act 1994.
- Aboriginal Land Act 1991.
- Planning Act 2016.
- Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth).
- Acquisition of Land Act 1967.
- Duties Act 2001.
- Property Occupations Act 2014.
- Neighbourhood Disputes (Dividing Fences and Trees) Act 2011.
- Personal Property Securities Act 2010 (Cth).
- Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
Mandatory Requirements
To be considered a suitable applicant for this position, you must have the following:
- Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland, and eligibility for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.
- A degree in Law or equivalent.
