About the Company
We are working with a state government client who is seeking an experienced Principal Lawyer (Property Law & Leasing). This position operates within the Property Law and Leasing Team of the Official Solicitor, Corporate Legal Servies which provides client focused legal services and authoritative high-quality advice to support the work of this department and the Queensland Government.
About the Role
- Oversee the work of other lawyers to ensure the delivery of an efficient, high quality and cost
- Effective legal service.
- Provide the department and external government clients with efficient, cost effective and accurate property law or leasing services in accordance with relevant legislation, professional and public sector standards and Office policy and procedure.
- Provide assistance in marketing the services of the Office to external government clients.
- Be a first point of contact for clients and external lawyers in relation to the legal matters for which you have primary responsibility.
- Deliver superior client service by ensuring that you represent the office in a timely way in relation to all your client facing responsibilities. This role has direct contact with clients and lawyers from the public sector and lawyers from the private and public sector.
- Deliver and maintain positive and effective relationships with work colleagues and internal and external clients.
- Maintain records in accordance with professional and public sector standards and Office policy and procedure.
About you
- Demonstrate a contemporary and high-level understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of the law and be able to provide high level legal advice relating to at least some of the following areas:
- Commercial law
- Property and leasing law
- Have a high level of knowledge and understanding of the following legislation:
- Property Law Act 1974.
- Land Act 1994.
- Land Title Act 1994.
- Retail Shop Leases Act 1994.
- Aboriginal Land Act 1991.
- Planning Act 2016.
- Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth).
- Acquisition of Land Act 1967.
- Duties Act 2001.
- Property Occupations Act 2014.
- Neighbourhood Disputes (Dividing Fences and Trees) Act 2011.
- Personal Property Securities Act 2010 (Cth).
- Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)
- You must be admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland, and eligible for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners
- A degree in Law or equivalent is mandatory for this role.
The Benefits
- $87.02 to $93.18 per hour + Super (PAYG Agency Contractor)
- Contract up to June 2026
- Brisbane, CBD
- Monday to Friday, Full time hours
