Pengos cafe is open daily 8am to 4.30pm (8am - 3pm in winter months) for great coffee & cakes, gourmet burgers, awesome fish & chips and fresh salads. Located right next door to Perth Wildlife Encounters, Pengos is the ideal place for a quick bite to eat for breakfast or lunch, before or after your visit to Penguin Island.

We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Casual Cook / Kitchen Hand to join team at Pengos.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in catering or food production in a fast-paced environment working with a high attention to detail. Ideally, you will have completed, or be studying Commercial Cookery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for :

  • Food Platter setting and packing
  • Food Preparation & Cooking for Cafe Service
  • Ensure that presentation/weight specifications are adhered to
  • Strictly follow menu specifications and comply with Food Safety/HACCP guidelines
  • Ensure that cleaning schedules are followed and adhered to, maintaining a high standard of hygiene at all times
  • Communicate with all stakeholders to ensure that time lines are met
  • Understand and comply with internal policies and procedures
  • Move and lift items manually
  • Assist with and / or perform raw material preparation and cooking
  • Perform tasks such as baking, grilling, oven and stove-top cooking
  • Skilled use of knives and machinery
  • Proficient in all commercial kitchen equipment requirements, storage and food presentations

What do you need to be successful in securing this role?

  • Demonstrated experience of working in a food environment
  • Basic knife skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Knowledge of HACCP / Food Safety and OHS
  • Prior experience with cafe/restaurant service and or catering (highly regarded) and customer service oriented
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Prior experience in Allergen control working environment and knowledge regarding segregation and separation of equipment highly regarded
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work across a 7-day varied roster
