Due to a recent available positions - Charters Paper is seeking a skilled and experienced Machine Operator (preferably Print Industry) with leadership abilities to join our dynamic food packaging and paper converting team. This is a permanent opportunity based in Laverton North, offering comprehensive training on day shift and preferred shift of the successful candidate can be discussed.

We manufacture premium paper rolls and food packaging products - including a new flat bag machine using state-of-the-art machinery. As a locally thriving company, we supply major national retailers, financial institutions, and quick-service restaurants, continuously driving innovation and delivering high-quality products.

About the Role:

As an experienced Machine Operator, you will report to the Production Manager or Supervisor and be responsible for maintaining a high standard of quality and safety while meeting production targets. You will work across a variety of machinery, with training provided in both technical and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring a high standard of quality and safety
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to meet objectives
  • Participate and lead in machine changeovers between products
  • Learn and operate state-of-the-art paper bag printing and converting, and also a greaseproof converting machine
  • Report equipment breakdowns promptly and assist in troubleshooting production issues
  • Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards within the department
  • Monitor production processes and ensure finished goods meet quality requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities and record accurate time/performance data
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, ensuring team productivity and efficiency

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work permanent night shift
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Stable work history and a solid work ethic
  • Previous experience in the print, paper product manufacturing industry is a plus, but not essential as full training is provided
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Previous web printing, packaging, or other trade experience in machine operation, maintenance, or troubleshooting is desirable, but we will also consider candidates with a strong understanding of machinery from other industries.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of machine operation experience required
  • Some informal mentoring or leadership experience preferred for the team leading aspects of this role
  • Australian work rights required for this position
