This role will oversee the operational coordination of the Program over a three-year period, aiming to build sport capacity and increase participation in athletics for people with a disability. The Program is part of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sports (DCITS) Inclusive Participation Grant Program.

The Inclusion Coordinator will also work closely with the Member Engagement Coordinator to support the development of a state-wide network of Clubs and Centres. This collaboration will focus on enhancing inclusivity and providing practical tools to assist with club administration.

Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with members, Clubs and Centres, State and Local Government, and key community service partners will be essential to achieving the objectives of this position.

Athletics West is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment where all individuals—regardless of ability, background, or identity—feel welcomed, respected, and supported

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enhance the capacity of athletics to create and sustain inclusive, accessible, safe, and welcoming environments for people with a disability.
  • Increase awareness of and participation in athletics among people with a disability.
  • Support the delivery and ongoing review of athletics products, events, and competitions, in alignment with the Program's key objectives, while contributing to the development of all stakeholders across the sport.

  • Manage the Program's budget in alignment with the strategic plan and available resources.
  • Collaborate with the Club and Centre network to develop tailored plans that foster inclusive environments, based on each organisation's specific needs and stage of development.
  • Implement initiatives to support the development of coaches and officials, enabling more inclusive practices within existing athletics structures.
  • Coordinate the delivery of term-based programs across multiple venues, ensuring accessibility for new participants and addressing barriers to participation.
  • Maintain strong relationships and effective communication with stakeholders, including Australian Athletics, the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sports, the WA Institute of Sport, regional Academies of Sport, and other relevant partners.
  • Assist in the creation, development, and implementation of Athletics West policies, procedures, and programs, in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Identify gaps in service delivery and program offerings—such as coaching, officiating, competition, events, and pathway programs—and address these through innovative and inclusive initiatives and partnerships.
  • Communicate effectively with members, staff, government authorities, representative bodies, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Ensure the organisation, its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently represented with a strong and positive image to the public and stakeholders.
  • Represent the organisation as required at events, conferences, and meetings, including through formal submissions.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably expected of the role, as directed by the Chief Operating Officer or Chief Executive Officer, and within the employee's capabilities.
