Our client a leading, sustainability-focused producer with nationwide operations is appointing a
General Manager, People & Culture
to join the senior leadership team. The business is growing, performance expectations are lifting, and this role is central to ensuring people, culture and operations move in step. The appointment comes at a positive moment: the mandate is to build on what already works, simplify what doesn't, and enable leaders and teams to do their best work.
The Role
You will lead a capable People & Culture function and partner closely with the Executive team. The remit spans strategic workforce planning, leadership capability and employee experience, alongside the reliability of core operations. Success is defined by better business outcomes, a consistently high-quality colleague experience and confident, compliant day-to-day delivery. The emphasis is on clarity, consistency and evolution.
Key Priorities
Your first task is to shape a P&C function that is responsive, thoughtful and commercial: a centre of excellence across talent, capability, reward, systems and employee experience. In parallel, you will help leaders set clear standards, build capability and embed a culture that supports sustained results. The operational core of payroll, compliance and IR/ER must remain dependable and well-governed. Finally, you will modernise the platform with a contemporary HCM and data-led insight, aligning people strategy with the organisation's commercial and ESG objectives.
What Success Looks Like
Within 12 months
- You will ensure that there is a clear, jointly owned P&C roadmap that aligns with the organisation's priorities and brings the function's strengths to the fore.
- A contemporary people platform is implemented with thoughtful change management, making every day processes simpler for leaders and teams.
- The P&C structure is clarified with crisp accountabilities and better service experiences for internal stakeholders.
- Core operations remain dependable and well-governed, while baseline measures for engagement and leadership capability provide a fair starting point for ongoing improvement.
- Early wins such as smoother hiring, a sharper onboarding experience and more proactive workforce planning build confidence and momentum.
By 24 months
- People & Culture is recognised across the business as a strategic partner and centre of excellence, enabling leaders with practical insights and support.
- A place where high-performance expectations are well understood, development pathways and succession plans are visible, and values are reflected in day-to-day leadership behaviours and systems.
- Modern tools and data to inform better, faster decisions; the EVP feels current and compelling; and the function's work is evident in tangible outcomes, stronger engagement, healthier retention in critical roles and measurable productivity gains.
- A tone of forward-looking and collaboration: continuous improvement is part of how the organisation operates, not a programme with an end date.
The ideal candidates
You bring a strong record of leading people and culture transformation in complex, regulated environments, with the judgement to balance ambition and practicality. You connect people levers to productivity, risk and financial outcomes, and you have depth across organisation design, leadership development, payroll, compliance and IR/ER. You apply a global perspective with sound local judgement, and your leadership style is inclusive, credible and measured. You can build trust quickly at all levels and to move the organisation forward without unnecessary disruption.
Location & scope
The role is based in Hobart with a National remit across multiple sites. Some travel will be required and, for the right candidate, relocation support can be provided. Discretion is assured; enquiries and applications are handled in strict confidence.
Expressions of interest
We welcome conversations with leaders who are motivated by transformational change that will genuinely move the needle. We are looking for someone who can enable high performance and leave a thoughtful and lasting legacy.
