Purpose

The Personal Care Worker (Grade 3) holds a position of increased responsibility within our facility. This role requires an experienced and compassionate individual who is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to elderly residents. In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the Aged Care Award, Grade 3 Personal Care Workers are held to a higher accountability for their own work and play a vital role in reporting critical information to ensure resident safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care and Support:

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and any other request in accordance with person-cantered holistic care.
  • Provide assistance with mobility, including transferring and positioning residents safely.
  • Administer medications under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or as per the care plan.
  • Assist with meal preparation, delivery, feeding, and hydration as required.

Emotional and Social Support:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, promoting their emotional well-being.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations and activities to enhance residents' social interactions and mental stimulation.
  • Recognise signs of emotional distress and report them to the appropriate staff members.

Observation and Documentation:

  • Regularly monitor residents' conditions and report any changes or concerns to the clinical team.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of care provided in residents' records.
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with residents, their families, and the organisation.
  • Provide updates on residents' conditions and participate in care planning meetings.

Respect for Dignity and Autonomy:

  • Promote and respect the rights and choices of residents, ensuring their dignity is upheld at all times.
  • Encourage and support residents in decision-making regarding their care and daily activities.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and relevant regulations.

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate and follow directives from Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Team Leaders to provide person-cantered holistic care to residents.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment and workplace culture.

Work, Health and Safety

  • Report all safety concerns, hazards and incidents to the management team.
  • Do not act in an unsafe manner that may affect your health, safety or wellbeing.

Accountability for Own Work:

  • Follow all Policies, procedures and directives that apply to your employment.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of care provided.
  • Ensure that all assigned tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner or handed over accordingly.
  • Seek assistance or clarification from supervisors when necessary to ensure safe and effective care.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care) or equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Aged Care Award and relevant industry regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sympathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of elderly residents.

  • Immunisation records and health clearances as required by the organisation.
