Role impact & contribution
The Policy and Project Officer support Government investment decisions and risk management in the development and delivery of projects and programs to successfully achieve outcomes.
This position contributes to the continuous improvement of Gateway policies, frameworks, procedures and templates, ensuring they remain current, accurate, and consistent. The role requires a balance of independent initiative and proactive communication, with a strong focus on maintaining high standards across assurance documentation and guidance materials.
This role supports the successful and high-quality delivery of Gateway reviews in alignment with the objectives of the NSW Gateway Policy and the REAF. Gateway Assurance aims to provide assurance to the NSW Government, as the investor, that projects and programs are effectively developed and delivered in line with government priorities. It also supports Delivery Agencies in achieving successful outcomes through effective project and program development and delivery.
Proactively building robust relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders is paramount, as is your contribution to improving the delivery of outcomes across the NSW Government through effective communication, collaboration, and advocacy with Treasury teams and agency counterparts.

Achieve success as Policy and Project Officer
In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Law, Commerce, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- Broad understanding of the public sector environment, the policy process and relevant statutory requirements.
- Excellent communication skills - ability to clearly convey technical and complex information and analysis in a concise manner, in plain English and in different ways (verbal, written and visual) appropriate to the audience and its purpose.
- Excellent project management skills and experience coordinating and delivering projects within highly regulated and confidential environments.
- Work independently to drive assigned tasks forward, while ensuring stakeholders are kept updated through regular updates, surfacing risks or issues early, and escalating matters requiring support.
- Highly organised with a proven ability to deliver outcomes efficiently and effectively and with rigorous attention to detail.
- Ability to speak up, contribute ideas and commitment to continuous improvement.
- A commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture and encouraging diversity of thought.

- Manage competing priorities and deadlines, escalating risks to the Senior Associate when appropriate. Maintain consistency across Gateway reviews, templates, and guidance materials, while tailoring outputs to suit agency and sector needs. Balance independent delivery with proactive communication, including early identification of risks and regular status updates without needing to be prompted.
