The Energy Consumers and Competition Policy Branch is seeking a
Policy and Project Officer
until June 2027. This role will sit within the Electrification Policy team, which is responsible for developing consumer-focused reforms to accelerate electrification in NSW. Working closely with the Energy Efficiency team and other areas of government, the role will contribute to shaping policy that reduces emissions, supports households and businesses, and ensures a fair and affordable energy transition.

Key accountabilities

  • Undertake policy research and analysis to develop evidence-based advice on electrification issues, opportunities and challenges.
  • Translate technical research, economic modelling and stakeholder input into clear, practical policy options for government.
  • Draft and review high-quality documents including briefing notes, Cabinet submissions, options papers, ministerial correspondence and consultation materials.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of electrification reforms and projects, ensuring alignment with government priorities.
  • Support engagement with key stakeholders, including other government agencies, industry, and consumer representatives.
  • Ensure work is delivered within agreed timeframes and to a high standard, contributing to team and branch outcomes.

Key challenges

  • Balancing complex and competing priorities, including cost of living, consumer protections, decarbonisation objectives and energy market dynamics.
  • Translating technical and economic analysis into accessible and persuasive advice for senior decision-makers.
  • Developing equitable policy options that address the needs of diverse consumer groups, including vulnerable households.
  • Working collaboratively across government and with external stakeholders in a fast-moving and politically sensitive environment.
  • Researching, analysing and evaluating information, and developing strategy and policy proposals under pressure and against competing and short deadlines.
  • Operating flexibly in a high workload environment with multiple competing deadlines

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in project and/or policy management in the context of contemporary government policies and community attitudes.

Essential requirements

  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
