Australian Sugar Manufacturers (ASM) is the peak industry body representing Australia's sugar manufacturing sector, contributing $4.4 billion annually to the economy and supporting over 20,000 jobs in regional communities. ASM collaborates with members, stakeholders, and government to advocate for policies enhancing industry sustainability and competitiveness. The sugar manufacturing sector produces raw sugar, engages in bio-based manufacturing, and generates renewable energy, thereby supporting communities, creating jobs, and fostering a sustainable future for the industry and the broader economy.
Role Description
This is a full-time role located in Brisbane for a Government, Industry & External Engagement Manager.
You will play a pivotal role within the sugar manufacturing sector by cultivating strategic relationships to advocate for sugar millers and ensure a favourable policy and regulatory environment.
You will engage with government, industry
, members
and sector stakeholders to influence policies and initiatives affecting the sugar manufacturing sector. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing member committees and relationships, particularly those relating to the transport portfolio.
- Engaging in external communications activities, including management of media.
- Representing the ASMC in meetings, roundtables, and industry/government forums to enhance our visibility and influence.
- Developing and coordinating policy briefings and progressing advocacy strategies to promote them.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Comfortable engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, from manufacturing employees and canegrowers to ministerial offices.
- Strong communication skills, capable of simplifying complex issues and presenting them persuasively.
- Tertiary qualifications in
the
social sciences, law, political science,
economics, communications
or related fields preferred but not essential - P
roven ability to build consensus and influence key stakeholders. - Experience in government affairs, ministerial offices, public affairs, or industry associations advantageous
