POSITION DESCRIPTION
Health and Wellbeing Navigator

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Operating within a feminist framework, the role of the Health and Wellbeing Navigator is to deliver high-quality, wrap-around support to female survivors of non-fatal strangulation.

As a core member of a collaborative counselling and advocacy team, the Health and Wellbeing Navigator provides needs-led, trauma-informed support and advocacy to survivors as they navigate the health system.

The role also contributes to education, training, and systemic advocacy, including building strategic alliances and developing innovative health pathways to improve outcomes for victims of strangulation across Queensland.

QUALIFICATIONS

For this role you will require experience and education in health, including:

· Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology or other suitable health-related related discipline;

· Eligible for membership with governing body of profession – AHPRA, AASW, APS, ACA, PACFA;

· Demonstrated ability to work confidently and effectively in a challenging, trauma-informed environment.

· A minimum of 5 years' experience in the health field.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Direct accountability is to the Senior Counsellor of Red Rose Foundation who reports directly to the CEO through to a Board of Management. Safety of clients and accountability for services provided to clients is inherent in the position.

This is a 4 day per week office-based position (Monday-Thursday).

DUTIES

HEALTH AND WELLBEING SUPPORT

  1. Provide non-judgemental, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive support and information to women affected by non-fatal strangulation.

  2. Identify, establish, and strengthen health service pathways (public, private, and community) to ensure survivors receive timely and appropriate care.

  3. Proactively build and maintain relationships with health professionals and agencies to meet the evolving needs of service users.

  4. Advocate assertively for women's health needs, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights upheld in all health settings, both immediate and long-term (including emergency, clinical, and allied health services).

  5. Collaborate with the counselling team to deliver specialist health information and holistic support tailored to each woman's needs.

EDUCATION

  1. Contribute to the development of written resources for survivors of intimate partner non-fatal strangulation and professionals who support them, ensuring information is accessible, relevant, and empowering.

  2. Assist in the design, facilitation, and evaluation of training for workers responding to non-fatal strangulation, fostering sector-wide capacity and innovation.

GENERAL TASKS

  1. Network with government organisations, community-based agencies, other professionals and workers in the community to share and develop a greater knowledge of, and relationship with, people working in this field, focusing predominantly on improving health system responses to women who have experienced non-fatal strangulation (public, private and community health).

  2. Collect and report statistical data for accountability, research, evaluation, and needs analysis, and highlight where emerging data needs occur.

  3. Maintain a current knowledge of the application of legislation, research and emerging best practices related to violence against women and health system responses.

  4. Participate in the development of the organisation with other staff in strategic planning for the organisation.

  5. Actively participate in organisational strategic planning, policy development, and evaluation.

  6. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and regular supervision.

  7. Participate in regular supervision with an external supervisor.

  8. Report weekly to the Senior Counsellor on service operations and client needs.

  9. Other tasks as required.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

KSC1 Qualifications in Social Work, Nursing, health, psychology or social sciences.

KSC2 An advanced understanding of the dynamics of violence against women including high risk lethality indicators, and effects of trauma.

KSC3 An ability to work within the philosophy, values, and guidelines of the organisation as a team member.

KSC4 Experience in working within multidisciplinary team environments.

KSC5 Advanced understanding of health systems and responses to intimate partner violence (including emergency departments, clinical services, and allied health supports)

KSC6 A current understanding of legal aspects pertaining to violence against women and the ability to keep up to date with legal changes.

KSC7 Minimum of 5 years' experience in the health field.

KSC8 A valid and current driving license.
