About The Opportunity: 

The R&D Control Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, testing, and commissioning control systems based on proprietary OEM equipment. This role focuses on research and development activities to innovate and improve UON SMART Products.

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in the development of control systems and communications for R&D projects, including design, programming, debugging, testing, and commissioning.
  • Develop and configure the communications suite for UON SMART products.
  • Develop multi-layer security processes to safeguard UON IP within UON SMART products.
  • Facilitate remote control and monitoring via satellite communications, 4G, LTE, or internal networks.
  • Practice continuous improvement strategies in day-to-day work through innovation, new learning, or simplification.
  • Participate in testing and commissioning of R&D projects and assist broader business when requested.
  • Identify, formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems that satisfy all stakeholders.
  • Conduct research into new technologies, design new solutions, and find ways to improve existing solutions.

  • Proficient in report writing with strong grammatical skills.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), specialising in Control Systems.
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry experience working in a similar role in the Engineering industry
  • Demonstrated experience in industrial communications and PLC programming.
  • Extensive prior experience with Siemens PLCs.
  • Knowledge of industrial process control, digital communication protocols (Profinet, CANbus, Modbus TCP, TCP/IP), and use of fibre or copper-based transmission methods.
  • Familiarity with the IEC 61850 standard for industrial communications and other relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Understanding of control systems hardware and associated analogue signaling techniques, including configuration for 4-20mA, 0-20mA, or 0-10VDC.
  • Rudimentary understanding of Renewable Energy Engineering theory and processes.
