Are you passionate about protecting and restoring our natural environment?

NQ Dry Tropics is looking for an experienced Senior Project Officer to join our Living Landscapes team in Townsville. This is a rewarding, full-time, fixed-term role to July 2028.

You will play a key part in delivering projects that protect, conserve, and rehabilitate natural assets in the Burdekin Dry Tropics region. You'll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders including landholders, Traditional Owners, science, industry, government and community groups, to turn great ideas into on-ground action. You will help to:

  • build community awareness, stewardship, and understanding of natural resource management challenges and solutions;
  • deliver practical, on-ground projects that achieve real environmental outcomes; and
  • identify and pursue strategic opportunities that foster sustainable, long-term benefits for the region's landscapes and communities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, manage and report on project delivery.

Apply the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation to support regional stakeholders to:

  • assess the distribution and status of biological assets, habitat condition and associated threats and pressures; and
  • scope landscape-scale projects, and establish goals and strategies to protect, maintain and restore values.

Support regional communities to protect maintain and restore wetlands and coastal resources by:

  • developing and maintaining effective relationships with land managers, and empowering them to implement on-ground projects, while building their knowledge, capacity, and skills;
  • designing, coordinating, and delivering workshops and field days to build understanding and promote sustainable land management practices;
  • managing operational project budgets; and
  • monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on project progress.

Role Requirements

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Plant Science, Ecology or a related discipline or equivalent relevant work experience, vocational or industry education/training.
  • A current 'C' Class driver's licence and the ability to travel extensively within the Burdekin Dry Tropics region. This may include travel outside standard working hours and occasional overnight stays.
  • HLTDAID011 – Provide First Aid, or the ability to obtain
  • RIIVEH305F – Operate and maintain a four-wheel drive vehicle, or the ability to obtain

Desirable

  • Ability to use the Google Workspace suite of products.
