The Position 

Under the direction of the Head Chef, the Chef / Kitchen Supervisor will oversee and execute daily kitchen operations, ensuring the consistent production of high-quality food in a safe, efficient, and hygienic manner. The Chef / Kitchen Supervisor, along with the entire kitchen team, will also be responsible for engaging with and training a volunteer workforce to support the achievement of production targets.

Duties include:

  • Supervise and motivate volunteers to achieve production goals and maintain food quality.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S and food safety standards, including HACCP monitoring.
  • Manage food stock to minimise waste and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
  • Record production statistics and support team members with daily tasks.
  • Lead in line with SecondBite | FareShare's values, fostering trust and teamwork.
  • Provide coaching and training to enhance team effectiveness.

The Environment

  • Fast paced environment producing on average 5,000 meals per day
  • The role requires physical fitness with the successful applicant being able to lift up to 15kgs on a routine basis

You bring to the role:

  • Previous experience working in a high-volume food production, manufacturing or catering environment.
  • 3-5 Years Experience in a similar role (required)
  • Certificate 3 commercial cookery (desirable)
  • Adaptability to create a wide range of high-quality meals without relying on recipes, using ingredients sourced from an unpredictable supply chain of rescued surplus food.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members
  • Excellent time management skills with a strong hands-on approach.
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certification (desirable).
