The School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences (MIHS) includes disciplines of Indigenous Health; Exercise, Sport and Rehabilitation Sciences; Nutrition Science and Dietetics; and Medial Sciences. The School currently offers a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Trauma and Recovery Practice (GC ITRP), and a Master of Indigenous Health. The School also offers accredited programs in Clinical Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science and Dietetics, as well as non-accredited programs in Medical and Health Sciences, Pre-Medicine, and Nutrition Sciences.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced academic leader with an outstanding track record in research, teaching, and governance to provide leadership in Indigenous Health research and curriculum development to join the School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences (MIHS).
As a discipline lead for Indigenous Health, you will support and mentor academic staff, fostering a culturally safe and collegial environment that supports professional growth and academic excellence. You will also hold a a key leadership position within the Ngarruwan Ngadju First Peoples Health and Wellbeing Research Centre, helping to guide its strategic direction and expand its impact.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of Indigenous health at UOW and influence the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers through collaboration across faculties, research centres, and Indigenous communities.
About you
To be successful you will be suitably qualified with a strong track record of achievement in Indigenous health research, teaching and engagement. You will have experience supervising and mentoring both academic staff and higher degree research students, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting Indigenous higher education and capacity-building. You will have proven leadership and strategic capabilities, including experience in leading Indigenous health initiatives, contributing to institutional priorities, and aligning your work with national health strategies.
Additionally, strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential along with the ability to build effective collaborative relationships across academic, community, and health service sectors.
