Senior React Native Engineer

The Role:

We're looking for a
hands-on Senior Engineer
with deep experience in
React Native
to help shape the future of our mobile platform and digital ecosystem. This is not a pure coding role — you'll be actively involved in
architectural decisions, mentoring other developers, and owning features from concept to production
. This role can be based in either of our Sydney or Melbourne offices.

Our team follows a
"you build it, you run it"
philosophy — quality, testing, and production stability are shared responsibilities. You won't just be handed tickets —
you'll be expected to challenge ideas, propose better ones, and drive elegant solutions that improve both the product and the platform.

Our team is AI-first:
we use Claude and other AI tools to plan and write much of our code, automate PR reviews, and streamline workflows — freeing engineers to focus on higher-value work like architecture, innovation, and improving developer experience.

You'll work closely with our
Product Trio
(Product Owner, Designer, Lead Engineer) to explore problems, shape solutions, and deliver exceptional member experiences.

What You'll Do:

• Design & Architecture:
  Lead technical discussions, contribute to system design, and make architectural decisions that shape our platform.
• React Native Delivery:
  Build, optimise, and maintain production-grade React Native apps at scale.
• Mentor & Guide:
  Provide thoughtful code reviews, pairing sessions, and technical coaching to help other engineers grow.
• Ownership & Quality:
  Take accountability for shipping, testing, monitoring, and supporting your work in production — we don't have a separate QA team.
• Collaborate Closely:
  Partner with product and design to deliver solutions that balance technical excellence with business impact.

About You:

You are a curious, pragmatic, and resourceful engineer who loves solving complex problems, designing scalable systems, and sharing knowledge with others.

We'd love to see:

• 5+ years React Native experience (can be on-and-off, but with strong production exposure).
• 7+ years total engineering experience across mobile and/or full-stack development.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and trade-offs (e.g. modularisation, state management, CI/CD).
• Proven track record of mentoring developers or leading small teams — setting standards, running reviews, and levelling up others.
• Excellent communicator who can clearly explain technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Passion for end-to-end ownership: writing, testing, shipping, monitoring, and iterating.
• Experience with AI-assisted development — or a strong desire to embrace it.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, NodeJS, React, and GraphQL is a plus.
• You're not afraid to ask hard questions, challenge assumptions, and propose better ways of working — always in the interest of building better products.
