Cognitive Canine are expanding and seeking an experienced dog trainer to join our team in Canberra and Queanbeyan. This is an employee role (not a contractor) with all entitlements.

Pay and benefits

· $35–$40 per hour depending on experience (hourly rate includes casual entitlements) Miscellaneous Award Level 3-4

· Travel between clients is paid at $0.98 per kilometre

· All equipment provided, including a car seat cover, seatbelts, leads, a first-aid kit, treats, treat bag

· Work with a variety of breeds including German Shepherds, Staffies, Labradors and Border Collies, and you will work with friendly, supportive customers.

About the role

This position typically is for 2–3 days per week, with shifts of 3–8 hours and scope to increase hours as the business grows. You will conduct walk-and-train sessions, dog walking and group walks of 3–4 dogs, walks are up to one hour. The role requires driving between clients in Canberra and Queanbeyan, safely picking up and dropping off dogs, and walking on bush trails in all weather conditions. You are required to have a high level of fitness to be successful.

Tasks include assessing a dog's training progress, adjusting goals and providing feedback. Supervising dog walking staff, providing business administration including answering emails, writing training plans and scheduling.

Essential criteria

· Applicants must be available on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

· You must have your own vehicle and comprehensive car insurance,

· Be physically fit (able to lift up to 20 kg and handle reactive large dogs)

· Have a mobile phone and access to a computer for training and administrative tasks

· Two referees

· You must be able to work independently and as part of a team,

· Have experience using a range of equipment (various harnesses, 5 m leads, haltis, collars and slip leads),

· Demonstrate a commitment to positive-reinforcement, force-free training (no corrections).

Desirable

Cert IV in Animal Behaviour and Training, NDTF or knowledge-assessed certification are desirable. A WWVP card and a police check completed within the last 12 months are also advantageous.
