Strategic Projects Lead – Social Impact and Advocacy Directorate of Uniting

At Uniting NSW.ACT, our Social Impact and Advocacy (SIA) directorate drives bold, systemic change to create a fairer, more compassionate society. We're seeking a Strategic Projects Lead to turn vision into action – leading initiatives that deliver real impact for communities and help shift the systems we seek to change.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on delivery role where big ideas are translated into tangible outcomes through disciplined planning, coordination, and execution. You'll design, lead, and evaluate complex initiatives aligned with SIA's strategy and Uniting's broader mission.

From scoping through to benefits realisation, you'll provide structure, clarity, and momentum – tailoring approaches (agile, hybrid, or traditional) to project needs. You'll engage subject matter experts, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure initiatives are well-governed, resourced, and delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Key Accountabilities

Partner with SIA Heads and delivery leads to scope, initiate, deliver, and evaluate strategic initiatives.

Lead all aspects of project planning and delivery: design, resourcing, execution, budget, risk, reporting, and outcomes.

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective engagement and communication.

Apply flexible methodologies suited to scale and complexity while embedding delivery discipline.

Ensure collaboration across Uniting programs to deliver seamless, customer-centred outcomes.

Monitor the external environment and policy landscape to align initiatives with opportunities for systems influence.

Delivery focus: set clear goals, align resources, evaluate outcomes, and manage budgets.

Communication: explain complex concepts with clarity, prepare compelling reports and briefings, and engage diverse audiences.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Bachelor qualification in public policy, social impact, project management, communications, or equivalent experience.

Proven success delivering complex projects in social impact, systems change, advocacy, or related contexts.

Demonstrated ability to apply adaptive delivery methods to diverse projects.

Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership skills across community, government, and sector partners.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Understanding of social justice, equity, inclusion, and systems change, including respect for First Nations peoples and lived experience.

Financial and technical acumen, with experience in budget management, KPI reporting, and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA).

Alignment with the mission, values, and purpose of a not-for-profit organisation.
