As Australia's AML/CTF regulator and financial intelligence unit, AUSTRAC is responsible for detecting, deterring and disrupting criminal exploitation of the Australian financial system, to protect the Australian community from serious and organised crime.

Working under general direction and collaboratively within a team, the Senior Officer, Industry Education and Outreach (IEO) contributes to the development and delivery of education and engagement activities that assist reporting entities in understanding and complying with their AML/CTF obligations. This supports AUSTRAC's broader aim of helping businesses mitigate financial crime risk.

The Specialist, Industry Education and Outreach (IEO), contributes to the Education and Industry Engagement Branch. AUSTRAC aims to assist reporting entities in understanding and complying with their AML/CTF obligations to effectively mitigate risk. This role supports that aim by delivering education through a range of channels.

Senior Officer, Industry Education and Outreach

  • Develop Education Campaigns and Products - Contributes to the preparation of education products that assist reporting entities in understanding their obligations under the AML/CTF Act.
  • Communicate Effectively - Communicates clearly, concisely and unambiguously and tailors communication to audience and circumstances and ensures common understanding of issues.
  • Write and Report - Communicates proficiently in writing and explains technical and complex information clearly.
  • Relate and Network - Takes the initiative in building rapport and maintaining relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.

Specialist, Industry Education and Outreach

  • Develop Education Campaigns and Products - Prepares and presents information that is clear, timely and effective to assist in educating reporting entities about their obligations under the ALM/CTF Act and financial crime risks
  • Manage Entity Relationships - Develops productive, professional relationships with AUSTRAC's regulatory stakeholders, demonstrating responsiveness to both AUSTRAC and stakeholders' needs and drivers.
  • Apply Expertise - Demonstrates a high level of capability in applying technical, professional or specialist skills and knowledge and provides sound advice.

Key Duties

The Senior Officer, Industry Education and Outreach
,
under limited direction from the Specialist, IEO is responsible for:

  • Assisting with the preparation of clear and accessible guidance for businesses with obligations under the AML/CTF Act.
  • Supporting the coordination and delivery of stakeholder engagement activities, including campaigns, industry workshops and webinars.
  • Assisting in the preparations and content on a range of AML/CTF topics for use in industry education sessions.
  • Maintaining accurate stakeholder records and contributing to updates of AUSTRAC's database and records management systems.
  • Monitoring and summarising changes or trends in industry practices to help identify where education and support may be required.
  • Supporting stakeholder relationship management by responding to enquiries and assisting with routine engagement tasks.

The Specialist, Industry Education and Outreach, under limited direction from the Manager, IEO is responsible for:

  • Interpreting legislation and policy positions, and developing clear written guidance that is accessible to a broad range of businesses with obligations under the AML/CTF Act.
  • Developing and delivering presentations to reporting entities as part of industry workshops and webinars on a variety of AML/CTF topics, and preparing content for seminars and conferences.
  • Designing and implementing stakeholder engagement activities, including the planning and delivery of campaigns, workshops, and webinars to support businesses in understanding their AML/CTF risks and obligations.
  • Monitoring industry changes and trends to identify areas where guidance and support are required.
  • Contributing to targeted teams addressing complex regulatory challenges in the AML/CTF sector, including initiatives to strengthen regulatory capability.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role you:

  • Must be an Australian citizen at the time you apply.
  • Will need to undertake AUSTRAC's pre-engagement checks.
  • Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Baseline Security Clearance
