Your day in the life of a Privacy Specialist at Optus

  • Assist Optus in handling personal information inline with our privacy obligations and the expectations of our customers and team

  • Carry out Privacy Impact Assessments to enable Optus to mitigate privacy risk arising from initiatives involving personal information

  • Deliver practical and pragmatic privacy guidance to support and enable our teams and their initiatives

  • Manage privacy incidents and advise on best practice remediation recommendations

  • Develop and deliver privacy training and awareness programs

  • Support uplift activities in line with developing Privacy Act reform and technology advancements including AI

  • Assist with the smooth functioning of the Privacy Office on a day to day basis, supporting other members of the Privacy Team as required.

The skills you'll bring to Optus

  • Proven expertise in privacy law and regulations, specifically the Privacy Act, and ideally the Telecommunications Act and Telecommunications Interception Act

  • Ability to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments and provide commercially relevant recommendations

  • Experience in managing privacy incidents and implementing prevention strategies

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice on complex privacy matters

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively work with a range of audiences

  • Experience in developing privacy education, awareness and training materials, promoting a compliance privacy culture across the organisation

  • Strong analytical skills to identify critical compliance issues, write and review policies, and develop mitigating controls.
