Assistant Accountant

GTS Freight Group (GTS), consisting of GTS Freight Management, G1 Logistics and G1 Refrigerated Logistics, is a privately owned, market leader in linehaul transport and logistics solutions, servicing a range of blue-chip companies nationally. The group has a fleet of 120 prime movers, over 450 trailers and 35,000 sqm of warehousing. GTS has a strong reputation in the transport industry due to its focus on customer service, safety and compliance.
We're looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Accountant to support our Management Accountant and wider finance team. This is a hands-on role where you'll be involved in everything from month-end accounts to managing accounts receivable/payable and driving process improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and support the AR/AP team to meet daily and weekly targets
- Ensure smooth month-end and year-end processes, including preparation of financial statements, budgets, and reconciliations.
- Process journal entries, maintain the fixed asset register, and prepare depreciation journals.
- Prepare GST Activity Statements and complete balance sheet reconciliations for review.
- Maintain a robust filing system to support audit requirements.
- Assist with payroll, group budgets, and financial forecasting.
- Partner with the Management Accountant and CFO on special projects and business improvement initiatives.
- Uphold strong WHS practices and ensure compliance with relevant Acts and company policies
What we're looking for:
Essential
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar accounting role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Experience liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prepare performance reporting packs.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Desirable
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA/CA qualification, or Certificate IV in Leadership & Management.
- Experience in people management.
- Strong IT skills, including spreadsheets and accounting systems.
