The Acting Manager, Data Intelligence Sports plays a strategic leadership role at Paralympics Australia in guiding the current and future direction of para sport and performance data for the organisation in close partnership with the Australian Institute Sport (AIS) and in collaboration with other key system partners (SIS/SAS etc) or sector stakeholders.

With responsibility for advancing the organisation's data capability and maturity to support recruitment and entry (i.e. classification and talent identification), Para athlete progression and performance, the role will manage a high-performing team of data professionals and complex, multi-stakeholder projects across the national high-performance (HP) system.

The role acts as a bridge between technical and performance data functions and strategic leadership, ensuring data insights inform policy, decision-making, and resourcing strategies across Paralympics Australia, the AIS and system partners. It requires strong systems thinking, stakeholder engagement skills, and a deep understanding of the Para sport (or HP sports) landscape. This acting role is a full-time, fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026 and will require occasional interstate travel and weekend work.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have a breadth of operational and leadership experience working within strategic data-related initiatives across a broad range of stakeholders. This role requires a strategic leader with a history and expertise in understanding the role data plays in driving evidence-based decision making and HP outcomes. The ideal candidate will strengthen the data capabilities across PA and the sector, while fostering collaboration between Paralympics Australia and system partners to enable an integrated data ecosystem driving insights from initial classification activities, through athlete pathway progression up to benchmark event performances.

As a strong sector and operational leader leading a current team of three part time/casuals, the ideal person will also be a leader in defining the direction for policy, internal and external resource allocation and making decisions that will support the effective use of data and research insights.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the Para sport journey which may include lived experience of athlete pathways and/or classification, or the HP sports system in line with the outcomes of the position.

Key Responsibilities

As the Acting Manager, Data Intelligence Sports you will oversee:

· Lead the development and implementation of PA's HP sports data intelligence strategy.

· Manage and support a team of data professionals to deliver on strategic objectives.

· Maintain and enhance relationships across PA, the Para sport ecosystem, including national sporting organisations, the NIN, and system partners.

· Provide direct HP sports data strategy and delivery support to PA's National Classification Program and Performance Pathways department.

· Coordinate and oversee cross-organisational projects with multiple stakeholders to improve data sharing and integration.

· Translate complex HP sports data insights and research into clear, tailored communications for executive and operational stakeholders.

· Maintain a high-level understanding of data systems, architectures, and emerging technologies relevant to high performance sport.

· Contribute to system-wide discussions on resource allocation, talent development pathways, classification trends, and training environment optimisation using data-led evidence.

· Champion a data-informed culture across PA, partners and its stakeholders.

Key Competencies

· Experience in the delivery of strategic data initiatives and projects across a broad range of stakeholder groups.

· Demonstrated history of evaluating and identifying trends amongst broad complex data inputs, with a strong eye to problem solving and innovation.

· Strong ability to build relationships and coalitions across the system with priority to identify and deliver creative and innovative solutions.

· Strong leadership skills to support a team through growth and change in alignment with PA's new sector /system supporting focus.

· Understanding of, and an engaging vision in the potential for data to support problem solving and storytelling PA's contributions to the sector.

· Understanding of the HP and daily performance environments (DPE), including but not limited to the Olympic and Paralympic sport sectors is considered an asset.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

· Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, Information Systems, Sport Science, or a related discipline is preferred.

· Postgraduate qualification in data analytics, business intelligence, HP sport, or leadership/management (desirable).

· Knowledge and/or formal training in HP sport environments, Para sport classification, or athlete pathways (highly regarded).

· An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant lived experience will be considered.
