Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.

An exciting opportunity is now open to join the Sydney Children's Hospital Social Work Department and the Mental Health Service to provide services to young people in the mental health unit (Saunders) and their families. The role is well supported by the social work department and mental health. The successful applicant will have regular access to supervision and development opportunities.

What you'll be doing

The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive and specialist social work service to children, young people and their families referred from the relevant clinical area. This includes psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling, group work, psycho-education and advocacy. The social worker works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.

The senior social work is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children and their families are met. The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of education programs in the relevant specialty for both social workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally. The social worker also provides a consultative role within their specialisation to key stakeholders.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Eligibility for AASW membership with significant post graduate experience in social work practice
  • A well-developed knowledge of the psycho-social challenges facing families in the relevant clinical area
  • Significant post graduate experience in a variety of social work interventions/modalities
