R U OK? Community Director
Lead connection, conversation, and community impact across Australia.
At R U OK?, our mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling. We're looking for a purpose-driven leader to help deliver on that mission, by strengthening how R U OK? engages with people in communities all across Australia. As a key member of the Executive Team, you will play a vital role in shaping how R U OK? connects with communities and deepens its impact through engagement, co-design, education, and authentic storytelling.
The Community Director leads a national portfolio working with a team to engage with the broad Australian community including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, LGBTIQ+ , multicultural and regional and rural communities. Alongside sports clubs, and our network of volunteer Community Ambassadors who share their lived experience while championing our mission.
You'll manage a talented team of six (6) direct reports, while providing strategic oversight of the Conversation Convoy, one of R U OK?'s most visible and unifying initiatives.
Your leadership will help ensure R U OK? continues to strengthen, sustain, and scale its reach, reputation, and relevance — deepening engagement and creating lasting impact for communities nationwide.
About You
You're an experienced people leader and relationship builder who thrives with setting strategy, community engagement, and communication. You're motivated by purpose, working collaboratively, and passionate about using storytelling, connection, and lived experience to create change.
You bring:
• Executive experience in community development, engagement, and/or social impact leadership
• Strong strategic thinking and project management skills
• A people-first approach with a focus on empowerment, inclusion, and results
• The ability to translate insight into meaningful action — and ideas into outcomes
• Strong oral, written and presentation skills
• Highly organised with the ability to maintain accurate data and maximise relationship development opportunities through the organisation's CRM (Salesforce)
About R U OK?
R U OK? is a charity dedicated to creating a world where we are all connected and protected from suicide. We are a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times. Since 2009, Australians have embraced the simplicity of the R U OK? message, making it their own.
Our work focuses on building the motivation, confidence, and skills of the help-giver – the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life.
R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks – friends, family, and colleagues - to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty, and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they're in crisis.
What You Should Know
Join our friendly team where collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Our office is in Barangaroo, and we embrace a hybrid working arrangement that offers a balance of face-to-face connection in a vibrant atmosphere, and options for working from home.
R U OK? is committed to fostering a culturally safe and accessible workplace where trust, respect, and the promotion of diversity and inclusion are valued. We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds, and those with lived experience.
