About the National AI Centre
The National AI Centre was established to support the ambition to make Australia a world leader in AI innovation and responsible practices. The Centre's goal is focused on working with industry to unlock the positive potential of AI in Australia by delivering reliable information and trusted guidance to build confidence for all Australians.

The National AI Centre's mandate is to drive productivity and support the development of economic growth through AI adoption and diffusion. It works to build market intelligence on the adoption, acceleration, and impact of AI technology in Australian businesses and to develop an authoritative voice for Australian industry to trust as they develop AI solutions for the global market.

The NAIC team leads several high-profile initiatives such as Australia's AI Week, the AI Leadership Summit, AI Industry Connections, the AI Directory, and the development of the actionable guidance that supports the Governments voluntary guardrails. These initiatives together with regular industry reports, enable Australia's businesses to take advantage of the AI opportunity in a safe and responsible way.

The opportunity

This role at the National AI Centre is focused on accelerating the adoption and innovation of AI across Australia's key industry sectors. The role focuses on building confidence, capability and clarity in the use of AI across industries. You will be responsible for designing and delivering high impact programs that bring stakeholders together, surface practical insights and generate specific sector guidance and case studies that inspire and inform broader adoption. You will lead NAIC's presence at major industry events such as conferences and forums.

  • The role reports to the Manager, Industry Development and has no direct reports.
  • The role requires regular interstate travel within Australia.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare compelling case studies, briefings, and content suitable for external audiences.
  • A collaborative approach to work, with the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally and work in a team to achieve outcomes.
  • High levels of organisational and project management capability, including delivering outcomes across multiple priorities.
  • A strong understanding of AI and its application in industry settings.
  • Experience designing and delivering successful industry programs or innovation initiatives.
  • Highly collaborative relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across government, startups, enterprises, and peak bodies.
  • Proven ability to work independently, think strategically, and navigate complex or ambiguous environments.

What you will do

As Industry Program Manager you will be responsible for a variety of tasks which could include:

  • Convening stakeholders across key sectors including start-ups, SMEs, enterprise, technology providers, industry associations and peak bodies to build collaborative networks to support AI adoption to unlock opportunities for innovation.
  • Designing and delivering sector-specific programs such as roundtables, showcases, briefings, and industry forums.
  • Lead NAICs presence at industry events such as booths, conferences etc.
  • Identify and source practical case studies and success stories that showcase AI adoption and innovation in key industry sectors.
  • Lead the creation of sector intelligence assets - such as AI sector briefings, insight reports, and practical guidance - both directly and through strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate across NAIC teams to scale the delivery of best-practice guidance on AI adoption and literacy to ensure industry stakeholders can access and apply the tools and resources.
  • Prepare reports, formal briefings, and communication materials for senior leadership, Minister's Offices and external stakeholders as required.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
