I'm a friendly man in my 30s with Angelman Syndrome (UPD sub type), living at home with my parents and loving life. I'm independent, young at heart and need to search for my forever home.

I need a true hero to look out for me, someone courageous to help to interpret when I may not understand the social cues. I need a trustworthy buddy to step in from time to time to help me get through the day. I need someone to keep me safe, who can think on their feet, predict and manage worst case scenarios. Motivate me to create healthy meals, exercise with me at the gym & pool. You will need to be brave, kind, resilient, patient, flexible and above all creative with your thinking and imagination.

Responsibilities:

  • Motivate me to be active and participate in the community
  • Support with hygiene, personal care (mainly verbal prompts), housework, and healthy food choices
  • Communicate with me using AAC (electronic and non-electronic)
  • Be patient, respectful, and a good listener
  • Help me pursue interests (gaming, sci-fi, movies, LARPing, gym/swim, conventions)

Requirements:

  • Experience with AAC preferred
  • Cert III/IV in Allied Health Assistance or working towards it
  • Physical ability for personal care and mobility support
  • Legal right to work in Australia
  • First Aid, Police Check, Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening
  • Flexible shifts (1:1 daily, occasional 2:1, overnights, 1-2 days/week, cover leave)

Disability experience not required—rapport and motivation are key. My main challenge is communication; I'm non-verbal but have a lot to say. You'll need to explain things clearly and listen closely.
