State Director, Mid Market Business Financing – NSW
to our team.
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, Business Financing, this person will be responsible for representing EFA within NSW, establishing and implementing a strategic plan for the state and leading activity within the state to win work, create enduring customer relationships and promote the reputation and solutions that EFA offers to the SME market.
We are seeking a customer-focused, results-driven, and commercially savvy professional with deep SME market knowledge and strong transaction experience. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on building strong networks, driving growth, and shaping outcomes that make a tangible difference for Australian businesses. The State Director will also be responsible for the Associate Director (direct report) within their state, with both roles working together to originate new customers and grow existing relationships.
THE ROLE
Location: Sydney;
Role Type: Full-time, Permanent
- You will develop and implement the state strategy in alignment with national Mid-Market & Business Financing objectives, driving growth while balancing risk and opportunity.
- You will originate new customers and expand existing relationships, delivering revenue and meeting state sales targets. This includes managing the pipeline and executing deals.
- Cultivate enduring SME client relationships and enhance engagement across your mid-market portfolio
- You will represent EFA across NSW, promoting solutions, increasing brand awareness, and strengthening reputation with customers, partners, and industry networks.
- You will collaborate with internal and national teams, ensuring alignment, sharing insights, and driving state outcomes.
- Lead and empower the Associate Director, providing guidance and coaching, monitoring performance, and fostering accountability, development, and high performance across the state team to achieve strategic objectives.
ABOUT YOU
- You must be able to demonstrate a strong track record of selling SME products and services to customers in a banking setting.
- Significant experience (at least 15 years) in a similar role with another bank or non-bank lender in transactions within the SME banking and export sectors.
- Excellent client relationship management skills, including the ability to work with a broad range of internal stakeholders while driving activity and closing transactions.
- The successful candidate will be able to make sense of complex customer information and weigh up opportunities and risks to generate the best solution in every deal.
- You must have a deep understanding of the NSW SME and relevant export markets, staying up to date with trends and factors impacting SME businesses.
- Ability to identify where a deal looks unlikely and step away and can manage rejections when they arise.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work at a fast pace, be proactive, and approach customers to achieve business success.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to guide, coach and develop others, foster accountability, and drive high performance within a team.
- Degree qualified in a relevant subject would be viewed favourably.
