Perth, Western Australia Perth Airport Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

Perth Airport is Australia's Western Hub connecting the people, businesses and communities of Western Australia with the rest of Australia and the world. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year, Perth Airport plays a significant role in providing economic, social and cultural benefits to West Australians.

Perth Airport is investing more than $5 billion in new infrastructure so we can support our airline partners to grow, offering more services to new destinations and an improved customer experience.

Over the coming decade we will expand T1 International, and build new domestic terminal facilities, a parallel runway, two multi-storey carparks and our first airport hotel. This will deliver one airport for the people of Western Australia which will host all flight services in a central location giving passengers a seamless, world-class travel experience.

The Perth Airport estate is spread over 2100 hectares and has developed a $1.5 billion portfolio of existing industrial premises and significant vacant land holdings.

We service a truly diverse community and play an important role in strengthening cultural, family and social bonds while supporting business, tourism and leisure travel.

As a Data Engineer at Perth Airport you will be the core of our evolving data and analytics ecosystem. In anticipation of the start of building our New Terminal we are looking for an engaged data engineering expert to step into a new team that will provide a foundational service for Perth Airport's future technology plans.

You will play a key role in designing, building, and optimising data pipelines to enhance decision-making and reporting. You'll collaborate with business stakeholders and projects to ensure that the data and information assets they need are reliable, of high quality and continuously improve.

About The Role

  • You will design, implement, and optimise scalable data pipelines, ensuring high availability and performance of the data sets Perth Airport needs to operate.
  • We will look to you to ensure that the data pipelines in our Azure-based Data and Integration Platform adhere to best practices in data transformation and engineering workflows.
  • Help to implement and enforce data governance frameworks, ensuring data quality, security, compliance, and integrity while collaborating with stakeholders to define access controls and metadata management.
  • Support the scalability, reliability, and security of Perth Airport's Data and Integration Platform, aligning platform strategy with enterprise architecture goals and business needs.
  • Act as a technical leader in the Technology Function and help to identify and implement opportunities for process enhancement.
  • You are actively encouraged to stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to improve data engineering efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Proactively maintain the health and operability of data pipelines and integrations. Resolving issues, adhering to incident management and change processes, and ensuring system resilience.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Ideally suited to an individual with 3 + years of experience in data engineering, with exposure to operational asset management and customer data structuring.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, SQL), data formats (JSON, XML, YAML), and data movement protocols (particularly Azure-style data movement and transformation tools).
  • Experience with databases and storage solutions (SQL, NoSQL, Blob storage).
  • Experience architecting and applying common data modelling techniques (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault).
  • Familiarity with authentication/security frameworks (RBAC, encryption standards).
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure technologies, particularly Azure SQL, Azure Integration Services, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI data modelling.
  • Understanding of modern data analysis and AI processes, with experience applying ITIL, Agile, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of troubleshooting and optimising data integrations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
