Network Operator
We're seeking a Network Operator to work in our busy control room to redirect traffic flow, coordinate response teams, and relay critical info to keep our roads safe, all while remaining naturally composed and alert at all times.
You'll join an innovative team, who tirelessly monitor the flow of the traffic with an eagle eye and respond with lightning speed in the event of incidents, both big and small.
As our Network Operator, you'll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It's meaningful, challenging and exciting work.
Day-to-day, you will:
Operate intelligent transport systems (ITS), including CCTV, AID, and road management platforms, to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow across open roads and tunnels
Coordinate with emergency services, field crews, and internal teams to manage incidents such as breakdowns, accidents, and hazards—minimising disruption and ensuring public safety
Incident Management and Traffic Management plans will become second nature to you, you will create these with ease to ensure our roads run more efficiently and safely when things don't go to plan
Your curious mind will drive you to think bigger, and find new ways to improve our processes, traffic management, and make recommendations
Provide accurate, real-time updates to stakeholders, media, and the public using digital platforms and variable message signs—ensuring transparency and informed travel decisions
Understand the importance of rigorous knowledge of traffic management policies, practices and procedures, including operational systems
Must be able to work across multiple assets as needed to meet business requirements
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:
Experience in a monitoring centre, control room, or operational environment—ideally with exposure to traffic control, emergency response, or incident management
Computer smart and analytical, you're fascinated with new technology and systems - you like to jump in the deep end
Driven, resilient and efficient, showing confidence and professionalism no matter how challenging the situation is
Organised, efficient and decisive in in prioritising the tasks that count, all while juggling multiple tasks
Experienced in writing reports and you know which important details to include so the operation runs smoothly
If shift work's your thing, you've done it before and you like it – our roads are open 24/7
If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
With a career at Transurban, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
A range of flexible working options
16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, available for the duration of the contract, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
Social activities and groups
We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.
We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not.
