About the role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Counsellor or Social Worker to join our team at WaterWombats Aquatic Disability Services (Ltd) in Canberra, ACT. This is a part-time role where you will provide vital counselling and support services to our participants families, helping them to navigate life's challenges and achieve their goals. This role is hybrid. Face to Face contact is in line with our in-pool service delivery on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons/early evening. Telehealth and administrative duties can be performed flexibly.
What you'll be doing

Providing one-on-one counselling sessions to clients, offering emotional support, guidance and strategies for managing mental health and personal issues

Collaborating with clients, their families and other healthcare professionals to coordinate a holistic approach to care
-
Facilitating support groups and workshops to help clients build skills, coping mechanisms and a sense of community

Maintaining detailed client records and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and regulations
-
Contributing to the continuous improvement of our counselling and social work services

Educating clients on the program model and supporting the team to provide wrap around care
What we're looking for

A tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work or a related field

Experience providing counselling and social support services, ideally within the disability sector

Excellent active listening, empathy and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with clients

Strong problem-solving and case management abilities to develop and implement effective support plans
-
Up-to-date knowledge of relevant mental health, disability and social services legislation and best practices
-
Commitment to working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
-
Someone passionate about community development and disability services
