Experienced Drainage Engineer

We're on the lookout for a talented Mid to Senior Drainage Engineer to join our growing Civil Team in Sydney. You'll be working on a range of exciting infrastructure projects, including several design and construct (D&C) and direct engagement packages for IRPL, direct engagements with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) for road and intersection upgrades, and potential D&C tender shortlists for regional energy projects, highway upgrades, and rail developments.
What Is This Role About
This role focuses on the design and delivery of innovative drainage and water quality solutions that add value to major infrastructure projects, supporting our clients through technical excellence. You'll be a go-to expert in 12d modelling and drainage design, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Drainage Design, Modelling & Standards Compliance
- Develop and review stormwater drainage designs for transport and infrastructure projects using tools such as DRAINS, MUSIC, and 12d.
- Undertake hydraulic modelling to support design development and ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
- Ensure all drainage designs meet local council, state, and national standards, including Austroads and TfNSW guidelines.
- Apply best practices in water quality and quantity management, including Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles.
Technical Documentation & BIM Integration
- Prepare design reports, technical notes, and drawings to support project approvals and delivery.
- Ensure drainage models and documentation align with BIM requirements, including model coordination, data attribution, and clash detection.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate drainage solutions into broader infrastructure designs.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and authorities to resolve design issues and ensure smooth project progression.
Automation & Coding
- Demonstrate an interest or experience in developing scripts, macros, or custom tools to improve design efficiency and data handling.
- Support automation of repetitive tasks and contribute to innovation in digital workflows.
Quality Assurance
- Perform design checks and peer reviews to maintain high technical standards.
- Support internal QA processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Mentoring
- Support junior staff through technical guidance and contribute to team development.
What You Bring
- Proven experience in infrastructure drainage and water quality design
- Proficiency in 12d, MUSIC and other relevant design tools
- Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
