About the role

As a WHS senior advisor at selectability, this role is instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture and ensuring the organisation's compliance with workplace health and safety legislation. The position provides strategic oversight and expert guidance across all facets of WHS, from policy development and risk management to incident investigation and regulatory reporting. By leading a dedicated safety team and collaborating with key stakeholders, the WHS senior advisor drives continuous improvement in safety performance, supports effective injury management, and champions behavioural change initiatives. With a strong focus on governance, training, and operational alignment, the role contributes directly to the safety wellbeing of employees and the achievement of selectability's organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • developing and implementing WHS policies and procedures to ensure alignment with compliance, legislation, and organisational goals
  • identifying and advising on WHS risks, recommending appropriate controls, and monitoring their effectiveness
  • providing quality leadership, direction, and guidance to the WHS team
  • managing the coordination of WorkCover claims and overseeing Return to Work programs to ensure compliance and successful reintegration
  • conducting audits and inspections to verify WHS standards are met across the organisation
  • maintaining WHS documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • investigating incidents, near misses, and injuries to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • supporting and advising on WHS training programs to build capability and awareness
  • promoting safety awareness and driving behavioural change across the workforce
  • preparing reports for executive leadership and the Board of Directors to inform strategic decision-making
About you

To be considered for this rewarding role you will have:

  • strong knowledge of WHS legislation (e.g. Work Health and Safety Act 2011)
  • experience with risk management frameworks and incident investigation
  • ability to influence and lead change
  • highly developed person-centred communication skills
  • excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including presentation skills
  • highly developed analytical, problem solving, and numerical skills including the ability to compile, analyse data and prepare reports
  • a demonstrated high level of attention to detail with a consistent approach
  • a demonstrated ability to prioritise conflicting priorities as required
  • ability to work under minimal supervision with the capacity to exercise initiative in the application of work processes and procedures and establish objectives and outcomes
  • a demonstrated ability to show empathy and compassion
  • high level organisational, administrative and project management skills
  • a proven ability to think critically and approach challenges with innovation
Role requirements
  • tertiary qualification in WHS, Occupational Health, or related field
  • minimum 3 years' experience in WHS management
  • occasional out of hours work may be required from time to time
  • some travel to selectability sites may be required from time to time
  • a Child Safety & Personal History Screening check
  • a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality, Safety & You" completion certificate (or the ability to obtain)
  • a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence

The WHS Senior Advisor is a full time position based in the corporate office in Townsville.
