The Opportunity

At HenderCare Foundation and in partnership with the Department for Child Protection, our commitment to delivering safe, nurturing, and high-quality care in stable environments to children and young people is at the core of our work.

Our Out of Home Care Workers (Youth Workers) are engaging, energetic, and passionate people who strongly commit to supporting children and young people. If you, too, are someone who wants to make a positive impact in the lives of children and young people, then this is the role for you

The team is engaging, collaborative, and supportive, ensuring you can reach your full potential. You'll work alongside colleagues who have extensive industry experience and with supportive management who are dedicated to your development and success in the role.

Take your next step with HenderCare.

About the role

As an Out of Home Care Worker, you will work across our two divisions to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people:

  • Temporary Staff Services (DCP placements)
  • Residential Care Services (HenderCare placements)

As part of our commitment to maintaining a positive work-life balance for our workers, you will work across a flexible roster, with shifts typically lasting 8 hours, which may include passive (sleeping) overnight shifts. You will also receive an in-depth induction with comprehensive training on a continuous basis to be up to date with being able to provide support to children and young people in care.

So, what does an Out of Home Care Worker do?

  • Liaise with DCP and case managers regarding the child/young person
  • School runs and assist with homework
  • Assist with daily routines and attend appointments

A significant part of this role is to provide therapeutic care, which comes down to helping children and young people form positive beliefs about themselves and guiding them to build positive, trusting, and respectful relationships with others.

Our ideal candidate

Clear communication, showing initiative, and being confident in your skills and abilities will allow you to thrive in what can be a challenging environment. But it's not just about thriving; it's about growing. Collaboration, adaptability, and having a growth mindset will not only be critical to your success in this role but also provide you with ample opportunities for personal growth and development.
