Ensure the provision of high-quality fitness services and opportunities to Hume City Council residents, by providing safe, friendly, inclusive and welcoming environments through leading the delivery of fitness services, supervision and operations.
What you'll be doing:
- Support the Coordinator Fitness Services in the development and review of risk assessments, policies, procedures, and work instructions relating to Aquatic Supervision and Services.
- Ensure the health and safety of all members and staff using the facilities, in particular, the safety of all gym members.
- Establish and promote an organisational culture committed to safety by compliance with relevant regulations, Organisational Policies and Procedures, standards, guidelines, and industry best practises.
- Maintain appropriate rostering, supervision, support, and performance management of Fitness Instructors to ensure the highest standards of safety and service delivery is always provided including completion of annual My Hume Reviews for Part Time staff and routine catch ups with Casual staff.
- Fitness Team Supervision: day to day rostering and management of Gym Instructors
- Support the ongoing training and performance of Duty Supervisors in these key areas through mentoring and ongoing training opportunities in conjunction with the Coordinator Fitness Services.
- Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve systems and procedures in the Fitness area.
- Support the Coordinator Compliance and Safety in the development, implementation, review and routine practice of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Procedure. Provide advice relating to Fitness spaces regarding prevention and response to Emergencies of various kinds.
- Ensure the appropriate supervision of facility maintenance work undertaken by all contractors and staff to ensure that safe work practices are always maintained, work is completed satisfactorily and required documentation is provided and retained on file.
The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:
- Experience with the operation of a Leisure centre which incorporates a gymnasium and group fitness classes.
- Well-developed administrative skills including effective time management and organisational skills.
- Understanding of personnel policies and practices, including Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and an ability to supervise staff and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
- Skills in providing guidance and formulation of strategies to achieve customer satisfaction in a fitness environment.
- Ability to identify customer needs and expectations, determine appropriate actions and respond accordingly when dealing with difficult situations, to maintain a positive Council image.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Hume Leisure's Quality and Safety Plans and Operational Procedures.
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of public health and safety issues. including centre specific operational requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Physical Education, Bachelor of Science (Human Movement) Degree, or Fitness Leader's Certificate (Resistance Training) with little or no experience, or lesser formal qualifications with skills and relevant industry experience.
- Current Provide First Aid Certificate.
- Current CPR Certificate.
- Current Employee Working with Children Check.
- Current Physical Activity/Fitness Australia accreditation (or in a position to gain accreditation).
- Current Pool Lifeguard qualification would be advantageous.
- Experience with the operation of a Leisure centre which incorporates a gymnasium and group fitness classes.
- Current driver's licence.
