At Tassal Group, we are dedicated to "Sustainably Feeding Tomorrow."

With over 35 years of aquaculture experience, we focus on providing healthy, sustainable, and nutritious food, including salmon, prawn, and barramundi. We are committed to producing accessible food, supporting communities, and delivering strong economic results, all while prioritising sustainability to ensure a prosperous, healthy planet for future generations.

The role:

Join our team as a casual Seasonal Hatchery Technician at our Mission Beach Prawn Hatchery in Bingil Bay, Far North Queensland. With a flexible roster, you'll enjoy a fantastic work/life balance while contributing to a thriving aquaculture operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare feed and perform daily feeding routines to support optimal prawn growth.
  • Conduct routine health checks using microscopy and visual observation. Identify, diagnose, and escalate any health issues promptly.
  • Sample and test water quality using meters and probes to maintain ideal conditions for prawn growth.
  • Accurately document hatchery activities, including larval production and water quality data, using iPads and computers.
  • Implement and maintain biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks, including disinfection and cleaning of tanks and equipment.
  • Monitor prawn health and behaviour, escalating any concerns to ensure timely resolution.

Role requirements:

  • Aquaculture or agriculture experience is highly desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided.
  • This is a physically demanding role. Successful applicants will need to pass a health and fitness test prior to starting.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for sustainable aquaculture.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • The legal right to work in Australia.

  • Work with a supportive, passionate, and collaborative team
  • Huge potential for career development and progression
  • Access to Maxxia Salary Packaging, Novated Leasing & Rewards programme
