Explore the Opportunity

We are looking for an organised & collaborative Policy Officer to join our team. Your role will be to advise and provide support on APL's biosecurity and animal health policy development and advocacy, for the benefit of the Australian pork industry.

Here's a snapshot of the day-to-day activities: -

  • ​​Provision of policy research to support the development of strong policy outcomes.

  • ​Support relationships with Government and non-government stakeholders to advocate and advance pork industry policy positions.

  • ​Provision of services and advice to APL committees and reference groups.

  • ​Assisting with the provision of advice on biosecurity and animal health regulatory issues, collaborating with State Farming/ Pork Organisations as required.

  • ​Partipating where appropriate, in research on priority policy issues and other potential or emerging issues and contributing to strategic advocacy initiatives.

  • ​Supporting the General Manager Policy and Industry Engagement and broader policy team, on other pork industry policy issues as required.

Location and Hours

This is a full time role, preferably located in our Canberra office (hybrid work options available) however we are happy to consider candidates with suitable experience, who are based outside of Canberra.

About You

To be a standout for this role, you'll be able to tick the following boxes: -

  • Recent graduate to 1 year previous experience in a similar role.
  • A degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and prepare accurate advice on complex issues.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a small team.
  • Sound knowledge of livestock production systems, preferably in the pork industry.
  • Persuasive skills in written and verbal advocacy at an industry representative level.
  • Knowledge and experience of the agricultural policy, legislative and regulatory environment.
