Overview

OverviewThe Teamwork Platform Organisation is a key pillar of Atlassian's Platform Engineering group, delivering a unified system that connects teams, work, and knowledge across Atlassian and third-party tools. Our Automation Platform group builds and scales automation capabilities for complex, enterprise-grade workflows.

We are seeking a Head of Engineering, Automation Platform, to lead the design and delivery of high-scale, reliable workflow engines and automation services. In this role, you'll shape platform architecture, drive large-scale projects, and play a pivotal part in delivering innovative, AI-powered solutions for Atlassian customers.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a 50-60 person engineering organization focused on infra-centric, backend engineering.

  • Set vision and strategy for the Automation Platform, ensuring it meets the needs of Atlassian's largest enterprise customers (Enterprise-grade scale, reliability, and security )

  • Drive the evolution of the platform to advanced orchestration and intelligent automation, leveraging AI and the Teamwork Graph.

  • Collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to deliver seamless cross-product automation experiences.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to align on business process automation, analytics, and AI-powered experiences.

  • Mentor and grow engineering leaders, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends to ensure Atlassian's automation capabilities remain best-in-class.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading large, infra-centric backend engineering teams in global, distributed environments.

  • Deep expertise in designing and building large-scale, enterprise-grade distributed systems

  • Demonstrated expertise with automation platforms, workflow engines, or async engines is desirable

  • Track record of delivering high-scale, reliable, and secure platforms for enterprise customers.

  • Strong focus on operational excellence, reliability, and performance at scale.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills; able to influence and partner across teams.

  • Experience leading multi-year, cross-org technical initiatives that drive business outcomes.

  • Passion for empowering teams through automation and data-driven insights.
