Are you passionate about supporting your community and using your cultural knowledge to empower others? Join a team committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of Aboriginal people and creating a more culturally safe future.

We are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Community Support Worker to join our team within the Housing & Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Program. This role will involve providing psychosocial support to people living with mental ill-health, empowering them to live independently and recover in the community. You'll work closely with individuals to help them set and achieve personal goals, foster meaningful community connections, and live life on their terms.

Who You Are:

You're someone who brings a deep connection to Aboriginal cultures and communities. You'll provide culturally safe, person-centred support that aligns with our values of respect, integrity, and compassion. Your lived experience and cultural insight will guide you in connecting authentically with customers and empowering them on their recovery journey.

We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental ill-health.

What You'll Bring:

  • Cultural Competence: A strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, with the ability to communicate and apply culturally appropriate practices.
  • Commitment to Cultural Safety: Actively contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, advocating for their needs and fostering respect.
  • Values-driven Work: Passion, integrity, and respect are at the core of everything you do.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Cert IV in Mental Health, Peer Work, or equivalent, or demonstrated industry experience.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Valid NSW Class C driver's license and ability to drive a variety of vehicles.
  • A current Police check, WWCC, and NDIS WC (prior to starting the role).

Your Role:

  • Support Planning: Develop person-centred support plans in collaboration with customers, focusing on wellbeing, strengths, goals, and cultural safety.
  • Practical Support: Assist customers with daily activities, including skill development, transportation, social and leisure activities, finances, appointments, personal care, and medication.
  • Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, and local stakeholders to ensure our services are well-connected and culturally appropriate.
  • Accessing Services: Help customers navigate and connect to additional services, particularly those that are culturally specific to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records through online systems and databases.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive Salary & Benefits: Above award rates, salary packaging, and penalty rates.
  • Employee Wellbeing: Access to confidential counselling services through our Employee Assistance Program and a Fitness Passport.
  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible work arrangements, long service leave, and/or parental leave.
  • Growth Opportunities: Professional development through internal/external training, mentoring, and secondments.
  • Supportive Environment: Work in a culture where you feel valued, respected, and heard.
  • Recognition & Rewards: A program that celebrates your contributions and achievements.

If you are passionate about supporting Aboriginal communities, bringing cultural understanding to your work, and making a meaningful impact, we want to hear from you.
