About This Opportunity

As a Data Engineer you'll be working closely with our analytics, digital, and commercial teams, you'll ensure data flows seamlessly across systems and empower the League to make smarter, faster, and more impactful decisions on and off the court.

What You'll Do Build & Optimise Data Infrastructure

  • Design and manage scalable, secure data pipelines across multiple platforms (ticketing, broadcast, digital, player and game data)
  • Maintain and enhance the League's central data warehouse as a single source of truth
  • Integrate complex datasets to enable real-time insights and long-term strategic analysis

Ensure Data Quality & Governance

  • Implement rigorous quality and validation frameworks to ensure clean, accurate, and compliant data
  • Support data privacy and governance requirements in alignment with industry best practices
  • Monitor and resolve data issues across systems and partners

Collaborate & Drive Insights

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to deliver data solutions aligned with business priorities
  • Work closely with analysts and data scientists to structure and prepare datasets for advanced modelling
  • Collaborate with vendors, clubs, and partners to improve interoperability and data flow across the NBL ecosystem

Innovate & Improve Continuously

  • Drive automation and innovation in data collection and analytics
  • Explore emerging technologies to enhance fan engagement, commercial growth, and on-court analytics
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in sports data and digital transformation

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong SQL and database management skills (relational and non-relational)
  • Proven experience with data warehousing, ETL, and data modelling
  • Familiarity with big data or streaming technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka) and APIs
  • Understanding of data governance, privacy, and compliance
  • Ability to translate complex data concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills with a collaborative mindset
  • Commercially aware, detail-oriented, and passionate about sport and technology

Desirable

  • Experience in sports, entertainment, or media industries
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related fields
  • Exposure to cloud-based data solutions and analytics tools
