Roma QLD, Australia Santos Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Don't come for an easy career. Stay for a rewarding one.

At Santos, we do work that matters and always have. When you join us, so will you.

As an ASX 20 global energy company, we're committed to providing reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone.

To make it happen, we work as One Team and ask ourselves, "How can we?" (Even when others say, "We can't.")

We're proud of our history as pioneers, problem-solvers, and pragmatists. And as we strive to achieve our Vision2040, we've got our sights set on a culture that is focussed and disciplined to drive value, and entrepreneurial and energised to leave a positive legacy.

The difference isn't just thinking big – it's delivering on it too.

As part of the team, you'll tackle one of the most complex problems of our time. It's no easy task, but nothing rewarding ever is.

What you'll do:

Based in Regional Queensland, the Vegetation Management Field Assistant plays a key role in supporting vegetation and weed control across Santos' regional operations.

This position involves operating and conducting activities on organic properties, performing vegetation maintenance, managing equipment, supervising contractors, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards to maintain site access and operational efficiency.

The role is offered on a full-time basis, operating on a 2/2 roster at various field locations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Program Delivery

  • Plan and execute vegetation management activities including chemical application and equipment operation across leases, pipelines, and facility sites ahead of operational needs.
  • Maintain vegetation management machinery and support upkeep of infrastructure such as irrigation systems, access roads, and fire breaks to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Regulatory and Compliance Management

  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure vegetation work meets regulatory obligations, landholder conditions, project approvals, and EHS standards.
  • Maintain thorough site records and documentation for audit readiness, including treatment logs, contractor checks, and environmental reports.

Contractor Engagement and Supervision

  • Assist with contractor compliance inspections, including site safety checks, work scope adherence, and performance monitoring.
  • Conduct pre-start briefings, site inductions, and safety checks to ensure contractors understand scope, environmental sensitivities, and compliance requirements.

Operational Integration and Risk Mitigation

  • Coordinate vegetation activities with field teams to align with operational schedules, drilling campaigns, and infrastructure projects.
  • Identify and mitigate vegetation-related risks such as fire hazards, erosion, access issues, and biosecurity threats.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting

  • Liaise with Land Access, HSE, Development, and Operations teams to ensure vegetation programs align with business priorities.
  • Provide regular reports on program progress, budget, compliance, and risks to operational leadership.

What you'll bring:

Essential:

  • Expert in planning, scheduling, and managing vegetation and weed control activities.
  • Deep knowledge of Queensland environmental regulations, biosecurity obligations, and landholder access requirements.
  • Skilled in preparing scopes of work, supervising contractors, and delivering detailed program reports.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying vegetation management standards, land condition reporting, and environmental management plans.
  • Experienced in GIS tools, mapping systems, and field inspection reporting platforms.
  • Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk management, and WHS compliance in field settings.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills to work effectively with teams, contractors, regulators, and landholders.

Desirable:

  • Field experience in vegetation and weed management within sectors like oil & gas, mining, agriculture, or infrastructure and safety monitoring.
  • Knowledge of environmental approvals, biosecurity plans, risk management, and compliance reporting in remote operations.
  • Proven ability to implement cost-saving vegetation strategies and conduct field inspections and audits.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science, agriculture and project management, chemical handing and biosecurity certification preferred.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

What you'll get:

Here, you'll be amongst high-calibre people and get to work on industry-leading projects. We don't shy away from solving tough problems at pace. We like it that way. You can expect to be challenged and supported; to learn and grow.

At Santos, we're committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. This means a place that is safe; where you are valued and respected, and your contribution is recognised and appreciated. Join us, and you'll play a role in this too.

Each of our sites offer access to specific amenities that aim to create the best possible benefits to your health, wellbeing and performance. In Brisbane this this includes Onsite Gym facilities, Onsite GP services and many more employee benefits.

What you're part of:

Everywhere you turn you will be a part of a team who are coming together to contribute to our single uniting purpose - to provide reliable and affordable energy to help create a better world for everyone

And because it's not only what you do, but how you do it, you will also contribute to improving the living standards of the communities where we operate, building enduring and respectful relationships that serve a generation. It's about each of us, and all of us – together.

How to Apply:

Applications must be submitted via the online recruitment system before COB 8th October 2025.

A requirement of this role is that you will need to have in place the legal work rights for Australia to apply.
