The Legal Counsel at Hickory ensures legal protection and strategic guidance within the construction industry. This role focuses on navigating regulatory complexities, managing contracts, and mitigating legal risks in property development and construction. Beyond legal compliance, the Legal Counsel contributes to Hickory's growth by aligning legal strategies with business goals. With expertise in contract management, risk mitigation, and dispute resolution, they collaborate with teams across the company, helping Hickory deliver successful, legally sound projects. RESPONSIBILITIES Contract Review & Drafting: Ensure contracts protect Hickory's interests and meet legal standards.
Regulatory Compliance: Monitor compliance with laws to prevent legal issues.
Litigation Support: Manage legal disputes and protect Hickory's position.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal and operational risks.
Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence for transactions like mergers or acquisitions.
Contract Management: Oversee a centralised contract repository, amend contracts, and manage head contracts.
Negotiation: Negotiate subcontractor, supplier, and head contracts, focusing on securing favourable terms.
Advisory: Provide legal advice, ensure compliance with employment and data privacy laws, and collaborate with other departments on legal matters.
Construction Legal Support: Handle construction-related legal issues, claims, and ensure compliance with building codes and environmental regulations.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor, with a valid legal practicing certificate.
In-house counsel experience, ideally in construction or property development.
Handling litigation, dispute resolution, and ADR matters.
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including construction agreements.
Ensuring compliance with construction and property development laws and regulations.
Legal risk assessment and mitigation strategies, particularly in construction.
Familiarity with government regulations and working with regulatory authorities.
Effective management of relationships with internal teams, clients, and legal counterparts.
