About the Role
The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is seeking an experienced and values-driven Director to lead and oversee significant service transformation and change within the Child Safety and Youth Justice Operations Portfolio (CSYJO). The role is crucial to implementing major system reforms and service improvements across child safety, out-of-home care, and youth justice services to ensure children and young people in our care are safe and cared for.
The Director will work closely with the Executive board to lead the delivery of high-quality services related to the Youth Justice Reform Blueprint and deliver on the Commission of Inquiry recommendations including the delivery of a new youth detention centre, ensuring the rights of children and young people are upheld and prioritized.
The role involves strategic oversight and leadership, with a focus on strong stakeholder partnerships and community engagement. The Director will drive the integration of youth services, oversee service improvement and system reform of the Tasmanian out-of-home care system, and lead the service improvement team to build capacity across the CSYJO portfolio.
To succeed, you will be an experienced leader in strategy, performance planning, and business transformation within complex organizational settings. You should be both tactical and strategic, capable of bringing together conceptual thinkers and delivery experts with a shared vision. A strong focus on team culture and continuous improvement, especially in the safety and care of children and young people, is essential.
Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
Pre-employment checks as determined by the Head of the State Service, including conviction checks in areas such as violence, sex offences, serious drug offences, dishonesty, traffic offences, and disciplinary actions.
Relevant tertiary qualifications.
Proven management experience in a large private or public sector organization at a senior level.
