About the Team
The Data team drives data-driven decision making across Xero for internal users and our global audience of small business owners, bookkeepers, and accountants. We create and manage data services and products, including reporting, data dimensions, scalable data processing, machine learning frameworks, and API-driven prediction services. We are experts in data architecture, modeling, machine learning, ethical data use, and AI service design, and we promote data and AI literacy across Xero.
About the Role
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will collaborate with colleagues and subject matter experts to solve complex problems using scientific methods, algorithms, and data analysis. You will foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and growth, and work with cross-functional teams to build products that delight users.
What you'll do:
Analyze complex data to extract insights and contribute to understanding data value.
Apply scientific methods to develop models, evaluate them, and design proofs of concept.
Lead hypothesis-driven experiments to deliver measurable impacts.
Maintain high coding standards and collaborate with engineers for robust, reproducible code.
Support end-to-end data pipelines supporting data-intensive applications.
What you'll bring:
Experience in analytics roles involving data querying (SQL), scripting (Python), or statistical software (R).
Educational background in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
Ability to understand underlying mathematical concepts.
Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
