The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Area Manager (West), Consumer Affairs Victoria to provide critical role within Corrections and Justice Services.
About the business unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) strives for a justice and community safety system that works together to build a safter, fairer and stronger Victoria. Within the department, Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) is one of the many divisions and forms a key element to achieve these outcomes. CJS comprises of four Areas and corresponding regions: North Area - Hume and Loddon Mallee and regions, North West Metropolitan Area, South Area - Gippsland and South East Metropolitan regions, West Area - Barwon South West and Grampians regions.
CJS is responsible for delivering frontline operations across the state of Victoria, which includes engaging local communities to deliver responsive and inclusive justice and regulation services. A portion of CJS assists Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) to deliver services through the provision of: enforcement and compliance with consumer laws through inspections and online monitoring; residential advice and education to consumers, tenants, businesses and landlords on their rights, responsibilities and changes to the law (including residential tenancy inspections); frontline dispute resolution between consumers and traders, and tenants and landlords; and business and consumer education.
About the role
The Area Manager, Consumer Affairs (based in either Geelong or Ballarat) is required to manage a team of staff to ensure the delivery of CAV services within the Area in accordance with the service delivery arrangements between CAV and CJS.
Reporting to the areas General Manager, Community Services, as the Area Manager, Consumer Affairs some of your duties will include:

- Manage a team of staff by providing direction, motivation and monitoring of their performance to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
- Be prepared to be appointed as an Inspector under the Australian Consumer Law & Fair Trading Act and be delegated as an Inspector under the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Manage the delivery of CAV services within the Area in consultation with the General Manager, Community Services, to ensure achievement of CAV and regional strategic priorities.

Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce, or other related fields will be an advantage.
