About SMHRU
The new SMHRU unit offers mental health rehabilitation services for individuals needing extended inpatient care in a secure environment. Our focus is on autonomy, self-determination, and working collaboratively towards independent living. All consumers are over 18 years of age.

About Your New Role
Are you passionate about advocating for mental health services and promoting respectful inclusion? A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a Peer Worker to join our team. Our new facility aims to provide world-class, compassionate, person-centered mental health care that supports the recovery of consumers, families, and carers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in effective communication to ensure culturally safe care and support
- Support staff in their understanding on cultural differences
- Work collaboratively with clinical staff members
- Provide peer support and education to consumers, to support their personal recovery journey

**Qualifications**:
**To be successful in this position you will require**:

- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person with lived/living experience of mental ill-health and healing/recovery
- While not mandatory, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar is highly desired.
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent full time
- Base salary ranging from $76 963 - 85 591 per annum
