The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Peer Worker (Identified Lived Experience - Adult Inpatient Unit) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Work collaboratively with clinical staff members supporting admission, care and discharge processes
- Form effective and empathetic peer relationships with people accessing GCHHS' Inpatient Unit whilst appropriately sharing your own personal lived experience of mental ill-health, service use and healing/recovery.
- Provide peer support, practical assistance, education, information and referrals to consumers, to support their personal recovery journey.
- Support consumers to develop individual recovery plans which incorporate their self-identified recovery goals, aspirations and strengths.
About you
**To be successful in this position you will require**:
- It is a mandatory requirement of this position that the employee has a lived/living experience of mental illness, service use and recovery and is able to use this experience to support others living with mental health and substance use challenges.
- While not mandatory, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or if applicants can demonstrate that they are working towards the same/similar qualification), is highly desirable.
- While not mandatory, experience working as a Peer Worker in a public mental health or alcohol and other drug service, the non-government sector or community is highly desirable.
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Temporary part time (30.4 hrs p.f, 6 months, with the possibility of extension)
- Base salary ranging from $38.81 - $43.16 per hour

The Lived-Living Experience (Peer) Workforce provides a responsive program of recovery-oriented peer support, education, and information for consumers, families and carers. The team's goal is to increase consumer, family and carer participation in the planning, delivery and evaluation of mental health and alcohol and other drugs services. The Adult and Older Person Inpatient Units are located at both Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital, that provide specialised mental health care and treatment.
